Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to look at this thread. I know chances are subjective, but it'll be nice to hear some feedback while waiting for early results to come out. My entire application was focused on international affairs and a goal towards public service (I want to go into government), as well as basic social science and history. Anything in that huge realm is fricking fascinating. Stats: SAT: 2310; 750 Critical Reading, 770 Mathematics, 790 Writing (super-scored) SAT IIs: 800 World History, 790 Literature, 800 Math 2 PSAT: 228 GPA: 4.00 UW, 4.41 W Class Rank: top 2% of high school class, but school doesn't rank. Ethnicity: White (Ukrainian) Course load (AP score in parentheses): Freshmen Year - AP Microeconomics (5, self-studied), AP Macroeconomics (5, self-studied) Sophomore Year - AP Biology (4), AP Euro History (5), AP Calc AB (5), AP Human Geography (5, self studied), Spanish 6/7/8, Honors Humanities 1/2 Junior Year - AP Physics C, AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP English Language, AP Comparative Government (self-studied), AP World History (self-studied) Senior Year - AP Chemistry, AP Stats, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Art History (self-studied) Extracurriculars: 1. Founder/ Editor in Chief: A Global-News Magazine -made the entire magazine from scratch, and lead a team that releases a new issue analyzing world events each week. 2. Co-President/ Delegate: Model UN -bunch of best delegate awards 3. Competition Organizer, Leader, and Team Member -got our school involved in several economic and foreign affairs competitions that led to VERY high national rankings and in most instances first place 4. Russian Teacher: Elementary School -taught kids my native language (my parents immigrated to the U.S. from Israel and Ukraine) over 3 months. 5. Was mentored by a history professor, and became a principal author on a research paper about South American nationalism in the 18th century. 6. Peer Tutoring Board Member -helped revitalize our school's peer tutoring program 7. Interned at a university's foreign affairs program -set up and lead the yearly volunteer drive and helped plan for the big conference for high school students they host annually 8. Writer/Editor For School’s Newspaper (Opinion Section) -somewhere 20 social commentary articles 9. Volunteer for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign -but since I'm in California (unimportant/ always Democrat state), I didn't really do much. 10. Region-Wide and School Chapter Board Member: Interact -organize a ton of our volunteer events and have gotten about 500 hours myself participating in the events 11. Play jazz piano recreationally -no awards and nothing special though :) 12. Play grand strategy games like Total War Empire -it sounds weird but it was some of the best times of my high school life. Summer Programs/Internships: (all scholarship paid) This cultural exchange at Princeton University with Japanese students, great experience Boys State- I was elected governor Volunteering: Interact (500 hrs) Peer Tutoring (100 hrs) Awards: Whatever the highest AP award is A lot of character awards MUN stuff A huge national speech victory; I don't do speech and debate because of my schedule (plus MUN's better), but it was still a fun tournament. Volunteering Awards (typical Presidential stuff) My Info Gender: M Race: White Income Bracket - 160 to 180k Hooks: Ukrainian background? School Type - Suburban Public School size - 2,000 students and growing Recommendations: Two extremely well written recs from teachers I've known for many years, plus one from my piano teacher. She's a Donald Trump supporter so the entire letter was about how we have these long-winded, awesome conversations about politics and disagreements.
